Yaks graze in the higher part of the mountain area and they are weak to stand hot climate. At present, Mongolia breeds over 560 yaks and prepares approximately 200 tones of wool. The main raw material of yak is wool. 300 tones of prepared yaks` tail and a long hair along a yak belly are exported. 80%of yak is brown. The wool is shorn and dehaired in spring.

The action to take out is difficult because of this animal furious personality. The wool consists of mediate hair, guard hairs and its softness and lightness make it ranks after cashmere. The average wool fiber condensation is 30-35 micron, but it is down evaluated from goat cashmere and camel wool in terms of processing requirement.

Used for felt processing and felt boots until 2000, the wool began to be used for textile enterprises due to its valuable properties. Nowadays enterprises such as Gobi, Goyo, Mongolian weaving, Sanshiro, Sor cashmere, and Natural Alpha, are finishing coats, blankets, and scarves made of woven wool and hosieries such is shirts and socks made of knitted wool are exported to Russia, Japan, German, and England.

Products, made of the wool are excellent for its heat keeping, felt resistant and air transmitting features. Because of its softness, wool products give pleasant feeling to wear. As a result, wool products tend to be sold more than the products made of camel wool.
